S.M.I.L.E. or Showing More Interest Love and Empathy is a non-profit company that was started by HCC South in 2008 for the purpose of social upliftment. It serves as the outreach arm of HCC South.  It has since been formally constituted and run as a Public Benefit Organisation in less-fortunate areas.

SMILE has various initiatives that offer practical help:

  1. Rusoord Old Age Home:

Volunteers of HCCS visit the local old age home once a month to meet with the elderly, to show love in action.   Families count it a privilege to serve here and continue with our well-established relationships.  To give of one’s time, is the greatest gift to the elderly.

  2. Dove’s Nest Place of Safety:

Volunteers of HCCS have had a relationship with the housemother and children for almost 10 years now.  We love to meet with the older children and invest ourselves in their well-being and success.  Donations are always received gratefully for all ages of children that are served here.

  3. Wise Guys and Gals:

This is a group of senior members of HCCS who have created a support structure for one another.  They meet once a month for social gatherings at community venues in and around Centurion.  It is incredible to see how love, care and compassion are valued in this group. Read more

  4. Mooiplaats:

SMILE supports a day care and garden team in the informal settlement of Mooiplaats. This day care has 8 well-trained and passionate staff members that offers quality early-childhood development to approximately 65 children. The Mooiplaats Garden Team comprises of 5 ladies working in their garden, supplying freshly picked vegetables daily to the day care centre. SMILE also supports the garden team’s propagating and growing of vegetables and assisting with sustainability by hosting a market at HCC South every last Sunday of the month and/or on church community days.SMILE also supplies recycling items (glass, tin, plastic and paper) to the garden team to either sell as recycling or make items from the recycled items in order to sell. Recycling items are collected after church each Sunday morning and is delivered to the team at Mooiplaats every Monday. By bringing items to recycle to church and by supporting the SMILE market you are making a real difference.  Read More

  5. Laudium:

SMILE identified a need in Laudium and started a literacy and computer project in 2013, focused on equipping children.  Using a rented house in the “white blocks”, we reached out to many children desperate to educate themselves with guidance from our volunteers and a few missionary workers.  A thriving project was abruptly stopped by the sale of the rented house and SMILE regrettably did not have a venue to operate from.  The relationships that were forged during this time encouraged SMILE to keep searching for a means to get back into the Laudium community.   Our goal is to buy a property to use as a literacy centre.  There is an established fund available to contribute towards this project.  We trust in our Father’s perfect timing to engage with the community of Laudium once again.
